Jon is from the Boston area where he graduated from Berklee College of Music and performed and taught music for over 2 decades. While at Berklee, he got to be a student of both Ronnie Earl (Roomful of Blues, Santana and The Allmann Brothers tour opening act and 3x Blues Music Awards Guitarist of the Year) and Tomo Fujita - John Mayer’s former teacher and the man often called “the world’s greatest guitar teacher” - amongst many other great staff at the school. He played in his own band, Blue Train, for many years and was invited twice to participate in the Boston Blues Challenge. During that time, the band had several musicians from such national touring acts as Roomful of Blues, Kim Wilson and Chuck Berry perform in the band at different points. He also spent time playing with Shirley Lewis (Blues Trust Lifetime Achievement Award Winner) and Danny Tucker and the Vibe Tribe (Boston Music Award Winning Reggae Band). While in Boston he ran his own music teaching school, often teaching up to 20-30 hours of students a week and working with other teachers in the area. He also earned two additional MA Degrees in Philosophy of Religion and Biblical Studies, during his later time in Massachusetts, and was offered the opportunity to go overseas for PhD work to become a professor before deciding to go back into music again full time.
In early 2019, Jon moved to Nashville and began performing and teaching. For six months after arriving he led one of the better known open jams for musicians around Nashville. Since that time the jam has gone on to host such guests as Kenny Wayne Sheppard and Derek St Holmes (Ted Nugent, Whitford/St Holmes Project). He also performed around the area regularly with former touring musicians from acts such as Anson Funderberg, Eddy Raven and Bad Company. During Covid he began to take on more students, while music venues stayed closed for many months, and also began traveling down to Florida regularly to play and learn the area.
Having family in central Florida and finding that he really loved it here, he moved to Tampa in the Winter of 2025. Since moving, he has begun performing in the area - including a string of dates for the Bradenton Market through the Spring - as well as teaching many of his Nashville and Boston area students online.
