PIANO

Ben Fernandez

Ben graduated with an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma at Largo High School. He is currently pursuing a degree in Piano Performance at the University of South Florida.

Ben began his musical journey at the age of 7. This is when he first learned from his grandmother
how to read music and play the piano. He began playing hymnals. Later, he progressed to the
works of Beethoven and Chopin over his youth. Furthermore, his first public performance was
one of Chopin’s nocturnes, at the age of 9!

Then, when he turned 18, he began to seriously study music. This was while Ben was studying
abroad in the College of Performing Arts at Silliman University in the Philippines. At this time, he
studied music composition under Levi Alaban and piano performance under Nathaniel Bicoy. He
learned choral singing and choral conducting, composing instrumental music, and performing
Classical piano repertoire. Interestingly, he even picked up the horn in his first year!

After studying for three years at Silliman, Ben returned to his home at Florida where he
would attend the University of South Florida. He is now majoring in Piano Performance while
studying under Dr. Eunmi Ko at the USF School of Music.
