2026 Summer Camp in South Tampa – Introduction to Guitar (plus soloing!)
Introduction to Guitar is the perfect blend of nerdy guitar fundamentals and high-energy, soloing flair. Therefore, this summer camp in South Tampa will easily balance both true beginners as well as more intermediate players with curiosities in soloing, harmonic structure, signature stylings, etc. If you are looking for a summer camp in South Tampa where your child puts down their device, uses critical thinking skills and lays the groundwork for a lifelong enjoyment of music, you’re in the right place!
The Content In this summer camp in South Tampa, students will work through 3 benchmarks:
1. Learning major and minor chord shapes. Plus, students will find different places to make the same chords on their instrument. Next, campers will identify harmonic qualities within these chords, specifically understanding the third degree. So, they can switch easily from Major to Minor.
2. Furthermore, students will learn Ionian Mode…maybe even Dorian Mode! During camp, we will also sort out how to implement these modes in soloing.
3. We love songwriting! Therefore, we will also spend time writing and sharing individual solos.
Our Summer Camp in South Tampa Teacher In this inaugural Introduction to Guitar Camp, Ethan Smith will be our fearless leader, pioneering a camp designed to balance fun and creativity with real world tools that students will utilize long after camp ends. In addition to teaching, Ethan is an avid professional guitarist, performing regularly throughout the Bay Area.
Ethan plans to use a diverse range of instructional methods during camp. Of course, most of camp will be playing. Ethan will model and listen as students take advantage of a full day guitar camp to practice and perfect their education. Additionally, he will give true mini lectures on academic content, so students fully understand what is difficult to self-teach or learn from online videos. Lastly, Ethan will be teaching through the composition process where students will try, fail and succeed in writing their own chords, modes and solos.
The Show To top it all off, join us on Friday at 3:30pm for a 3 song performance! During the show, performers will showcase different keys they’ve practiced in throughout the week. Furthermore, students will support each other by playing as the rhythm section while taking turns soloing.
