Ben Fernandez

Ben Fernandez is a pianist-performer from the Tampa Bay Area. His favorite achievement in performing is premiering the five movement piano suite Tale of a Moth by contemporary composer, pianist, and cellist Tyler Faulkner, and performing Johannes Brahms' Sonata for Piano and Cello Op.38 with Mr. Faulkner on the cello in the same concert. Another performance achievement of his is his solo recital at the Steinway Recital Hall in Tampa where he performed Ludwig van Beethoven's Sonata Op.27 No.2 and Sonata Op.54, and Sergei Rachmaninoff's Moments Musicaux Suite for Piano Op.16.

Mr. Fernandez began professionally teaching piano in 2023 at Barrett School of Music in Tampa. He teaches at all skills and levels, collegiate to absolute beginner, and has taught genres ranging from classical Beethoven sonatas to pop music—Taylor Swift being a favorite to some of his students.

Regarding where he learned music, for two years he studied Composition and Piano at Silliman University, where he also learned choral conducting under Dr. Elizabeth Vista-Suarez and instrumental conducting under Dr. Mathilda Erojo. He is currently wrapping up his degree in Piano Performance at the University of South Florida and is studying piano under Dr. Eunmi Ko, a renowned international piano recitalist and chamber musician who has performed in Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center.
