My name is Madelyn Arena, I’m from Tampa, Florida and I’m a graduate of H. B. Plant High School. I am highly passionate about a person’s mental/neurological development and how certain tools, like music, can be used to strengthen neural pathways and the neuroplasticity of the brain. I currently attend Florida Gulf Coast University where I’m pursuing a BA in Psychology with a concentration in Neuroscience and Cognition, and a BS in Criminal Justice with a minor in Forensic Studies.
Music has been a part of my life since I was a child. My parents put me in piano lessons at 4 years of age and I developed a deep love for it. Following this, I started the flute when I was 8 years old. As a child, I participated in my school’s concert band and jazz band to continue my musical journey. To me, it is highly important to develop some sort of relationship with music, whether through voice or instrument, as it can be an amazing tool of expression. I want to assist those of any age at the start of their music journey so they can find a love for music just as I have.
Prior to working as an Instructor for the Barrett School of Music, I worked as a Private Swim Instructor. By working with people of all ages, including those with intellectual and physical limitations, I have learned how to create and execute a proper lesson plan that will benefit the student greatly, and help them accomplish whatever it is they seek to get done.
